Neverlasting Love

May 15, 2013 By Erika Leigh Leave a Comment

Love doesn’t have to be the lasting kind
I finally understand
A flash that renders us partially blind
While careening to an end
“Meant to be” is here for now
What’s here is meant to be
As tomorrow’s daybreak hits
It’s a different world we see
There’s no need to fight to make it stay
When it’s already on the move
There’s no such thing as uncertain grey
And there’s really nothing to lose
When I drove across that countryside
After leaving your bed at dawn
All I could do was smile and laugh
Knowing love had since moved on
It’s the grace in the way that we surrender
That helps to clear the air
Open to the shortcomings of forever
Grateful for a few moments to share
Beyond that we have no control
We make our own decisions
And honor the needs and wants of others
As we create the reality we live in
So love’s not always the lasting kind
But I think that all love’s real
A gift we should feel so lucky to find
With our infinite capacity to heal
